South Carolina has six commercial service airports, 54 general aviation airports and four busy military airfields that are essential underpinnings to South Carolina’s diversified business base, growing population and growing tourism industry. Airports support and assist South Carolina through many activities including recreational flying, providing a gateway to communities and tourist attractions, accommodating agricultural spraying, supporting air cargo and air freight shipments, helping law enforcement, supporting the military and its operations, providing access in times of emergency, and supporting medical needs and the medical profession. Many businesses in South Carolina rely on aviation, both commercial service and general aviation airports, for the efficient transport of people and goods. With more than 100 aerospace related companies in South Carolina, aviation is a multi-billion dollar industry. Aviation and airports in South Carolina also contribute millions each year in tax benefits to state and local government. The mission of the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission is to foster air commerce by overseeing the safety and development of the state’s public use airports and providing safe, reliable air transportation for state government and business prospects. Former Blue Angels Pilot to Speak at SEAE

Former Blue Angels Pilot to Speak at SEAE

Southeast Aviation Expo to Reach Mach Speed with Former Blue Angels Pilot “Fastest I got was 1.78 Mach, which is 1.78 times the speed of sound, which equals about 1206 to 1352 miles per hour depending on your cruising altitude! That’s scootin’ along!” joked Lt. Commander Scott “Yogi” Beare, U.S. Navy (Retired), former pilot for the Blue Angels and author of two books. “We are thrilled to announce that Scott has agreed to be a Key Note Speaker at the Southeast Aviation Expo which will take place at the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) in South Carolina on September 27th and 28th “, stated GMU Airport Director Joe Frasher. “It will be incredible for us to hear about his fast flying experiences since not many pilots ever get to go that fast or fly those type planes!” Beare has had an interesting life. After he began his naval career in nuclear engineering, he soon felt a “higher” calling – literally. He set his sights on his lifelong passion of becoming a pilot earning his navy “wings of gold” in 1985. Spending his last 20 years in the military as a naval aviator, Beare flew a variety of aircraft including the F/A-18 Hornet and F-5 Tiger II, accumulating over 6000 flight hours in these high performance fighters. He is a graduate of the famed Naval Fighter Weapons School “TOPGUN”, as well as a combat decorated veteran of Desert Storm where he was awarded two air medals and a navy commendation medal for valor in aerial combat. Beare’s aviation career reached new heights in 1995 when he was personally selected for the rare opportunity to fly with the U.S. Navy’s world-renowned flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels. Beare will speak at 12:45 pm on Saturday, September...
