National Aviation Conference Comes to SC

South Carolina is privileged to host the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Ninth National Aviation System Planning Symposium May 17-19 at the Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms.  Only held every three years, this conference which will explore the theme of Developing the 21st Century Aviation System, is a unique opportunity for South Carolina to showcase itself as an emerging aviation and aerospace center. Those of you who attended the SCAA Annual Conference the past two years will be familiar with the Symposium venue, and the event will be a valuable forum to connect with and learn from leading aviation industry professionals from around the nation.  As the TRB is part of the National Academy of Sciences, this is a great chance to engage these leaders in our own backyard. Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration’s headquarters, numerous state aviation agencies, trade associations, consultants and researchers will present on a range of aviation system planning topics, including global socioeconomic trends affecting aviation, FAA policies and perspectives, air traffic control technologies such as NextGen, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), state and regional airport system planning, involving non-aviation stakeholders, and future research and funding needs for our aviation system.  Highlights of the Symposium include a keynote address by Angela Gittens of Airports Council International, a dinner event at the nearby Citadel Beach House with a presentation on Boeing Charleston by Steven Dykes of the Charleston County Economic Development office, a luncheon featuring Helen Hill of the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau to talk about bringing new airlines to Charleston, and finally an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Boeing Charleston plant on May 20 for the first 50 registrants. If you are interested in being a part of the conversation on our aviation system as it evolves in the 21st century, please join us next month at Wild Dunes.  Learn more and register at...
