Boeing Exec to Speak at Aerospace Industry Dinner

Boeing executive Dan Mooney will provide the keynote for the Aerospace Industry Dinner on Tuesday, August 19 from 7 pm – 9 pm.  The dinner will follow the Inaugural SC Aerospace Conference and Expo.

Dan Mooney is currently the vice president of engineering for the Boeing South Carolina Engineering Design Center, after his appointment in June 2013. Mooney is responsible for guiding the growth and the capability of the newly established design center, as well as overseeing all matters pertaining to staffing, people development, functional excellence, and management of the engineering statement of work for BSC. He reports to Mike Delaney, and is a member of the South Carolina Site Leadership Team.

Prior to coming to South Carolina, Mooney served as the vice president of Aviation Safety and Engineering Function since February 2012, where he was responsible for engineering functional organizations and design centers, product safety activities for all commercial airplanes, as well as the continuous improvement and utilization of the technical workforce and for supply chain management for technical services.

Prior to this position, he was vice president of 787-8 Development, where he led the technical team developing the first member of the all-new 787 Dreamliner family. He had held this position since April 2009.

Previously, Mooney served as vice president of Regulatory Affairs for Commercial Airplanes, with responsibility for key activities associated with government oversight and regulation of Boeing airplanes.

Mooney has served in several positions throughout his career at Boeing, including vice president of the 747/747-8 program, vice president of product development and chief project engineer for the 767 and 757-300 programs. He also served as the Commercial Airplanes technical representative in Washington D.C. As the director of aviation affairs, he was the technical liaison to U.S. government agencies such as NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration as well as to aviation trade associations and professional societies.

Before that, Mooney was involved with the design and analysis of advanced composite structures. He worked on a number of advanced composite development projects, including the 777 empennage and the V-22 tiltrotor aircraft wing.

Mooney joined the company in 1980 as a stress analyst and spent his first year with the company at the Boeing Helicopters division in Philadelphia.

Mooney has a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and an Associate Fellow of the AIAA.
