Under limited supervision, plans and implements the operation, maintenance, safety, security, and development of the County’s airport and to ensure the quality of aviation and air service to the County. Administers financial and technical management consultant and contractor staff; reviews and inspects work of subordinates for quality, completeness, and accuracy.

The Airport General Manager will provide expert advice and make recommendations to the Director of Public Works, County Administrator, Richland County Airport Commission, and Richland County Council regarding the long-term planning and development of the Airport, compliance with state and federal airport/aviation regulations, Airport safety and security and emergency planning, community relations, marketing of services, contractual negotiations, and grants administration.

Due to the complex nature and responsibility of this position it is considered an executive-level staff position reporting directly to the Director of Public Works. Additionally, the Airport General Manager will keep County Administrator and the Airport Commission informed by written correspondence and regularly scheduled meetings. 


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in airport/aviation management, engineering, public administration, business, or a related field; Master’s Degree is considered a plus. 

Certified Member (CM) designation with the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) or ability to obtain this certification within 24 months of hire. 

Must possess a valid driver's license. Private pilot's license preferred, but not required.

Requires five (5) years of experience overseeing airport operations and development including at least three years as director/manager of a general aviation airport.
