Job Description:


The Airport Supervisor (Manager) is responsible for the daily safe and efficient operations of the Beaufort Executive Airport, KARW. Beaufort Executive Airport is a general aviation airport located on Lady’s Island in Beaufort County, South Carolina. The airport is home to 34 t-hangars, Full-service fuel (AvGas and Jet A) and self-service fuel (AvGas only), Beaufort County Mosquito Control, and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (substation and helicopter storage). The airport operations, including all FBO activities, are handled completely by Beaufort County.

The position entails supervising, coordinating, and reviewing airport operations, buildings and airfield maintenance, community relations, staff leadership, compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to airport operations, planning for future growth, supervision of retail activities, and other duties assigned.

  • Effectively plans for and directs employees.
  • Coordinates and supervises all daily activities at the airport.
  • Responsible for customer service experience at the airport. This includes assisting passengers, flight crews with information and contacts to enhance their local experience.Develops recommendations for promoting the airport and improving customer service. 
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures: ensures adherence to established safety procedures. Responsible for timely updates and filing of required permits reports, and other documents. 
  • Consults frequently with Airport Director to develop airport operational policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient airport operations. Recommends policies and procedures to improve the business of the airport.
  • Assists in developing and implementing operational and capital budgets for airport. 
  • Responsible for all retail sales activities, inventories, and quality control. 
  • Supervises/performs maintenance activities to ensure safe, secure airfield conditions for aircraft operations and security of airport facilities. Conducts necessary inspections, tests, and other quality control activities to ensure discrepancies are identified and corrected. 
  • Maintains inventory control of airport equipment; initiates orders for new/replacement materials; receives and receipts fuel deliveries. Maintains aircraft ramp inventory counts and airport security. 
  • Manages lease agreements with hangar tenants, office tenants, and other commercial operators. 
  • Assists in developing and implementing long and short-term plans, goals, and objectives for the airport including input in the airport master plan and the airport layout plan updates. 
  • Performs administrative tasks associated with proper operation of the airport business. 
  • Ensures all fuel trucks, pumps and fuel farm are safe and operational; responsible for compliance with all required subject matter tests and certifications. 
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks in support of airport operations: issues Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) and other airport advisories to alert pilots of potentially dangerous situations and/or conditions; removes disabled aircraft from runway; monitors/mitigates wildlife hazards.


Extensive knowledge of general aviation airport operations and regulations. Applicants must have knowledge of, and experience with, airfield maintenance requirements. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of airport business management, knowledge of lease management and airport development, and the ability to effectively lead a team. Must be a proven problem solver and innovative thinker. Mechanical skills are a benefit. Work occasionally requires lifting of items weighing up to fifty pounds. Environmental factors include work in all weather conditions. Airport supervisor is a full-time position and must be reachable via typical communications during off-duty times.


High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in aviation; supplemented by five (5) years previous experience and/or training involving general airport operations, airport equipment maintenance, mechanical repair/maintenance, staff supervision, budget administration, business development, and customer service. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
