Meet and Greet Congressman Joe Wilson

Congressman Joe Wilson (R-2nd-SC) will be at the Aiken Airport next Wednesday, Oct. 29th. All pilots are invited to attend.  Congressman Wilson, a member of the House General Aviation Caucus, will meet with pilots to hear about issues important to the general aviation pilot community.  Details for next Wednesday are as follows:

WHO:  Congressman Joe Wilson (R-2nd-SC)

WHAT: Pilot Community Meet and Greet with your Congressman

WHERE: Aiken Municipal Airport – Terminal Building Executive Conference Rm; 129 Aviation Blvd, Aiken, SC 29805

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct 29th; 4:00 – 5:00 pm

Congressman Wilson knows the value of general aviation and the $7.5 million impact of GA on the local economy in his district.  Time and again, he has gone on record in opposition to aviation user fees that have been proposed in the President’s budget year-after-year.  During his time in Congress, he has also recognized the talents and skill sets contributed by pilots and aircraft maintenance personnel to the Army National Guard and worked to protect their jobs in light of restructuring proposals.

He currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee where he chairs the Subcommittee on Military Personnel; the House Committee on Foreign Affairs; and the House Committee on Education and Workforce.  Before being elected to the United States Congress in 2001, Congressman Wilson served in the South Carolina State Senate where he was elected Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.  He has also served the country as a member of the United States Armed Forces.

AOPA encourages you to discuss the General Aviation Pilot Protection Act (GAPPA), HR 3708, and ask Congressman Wilson to cosponsor the bill.  The legislation currently has 150 cosponsors in the House.  Congressman Wilson needs to hear your personal stories – the costs and headaches you may have incurred to obtain or renew your Third Class Medical Certificate – so that he has a better understanding of how important this legislation and reform is to you.  Elected officials like to hear directly from their constituents about issues that are important to them, so your attendance at this event is invaluable.  You can also share with him that this bill will return tens of thousands of able-bodied pilots to GA and create the jobs associated with the manufacture and maintenance of thousands of new aircraft.  Because of the support for this bill in Congress, the FAA has even announced that they will do a rulemaking on the third class medical reform, but we need more Members of Congress, like Joe Wilson, to join the fight.

Please join your fellow pilots and Congressman Joe Wilson this coming Wednesday and let him know the importance and value of GA to you and your community.
